New Blog Blues

The thought was that this would be a simple thing. Move from the software I am presently using to something new.

Wow! Was I ever wrong – it's a whole new learning curve. Just getting it configured is going to take awhile. But at least it will let me import everything on my existing blog.

You can get a little flavor by clicking (this is very old, and the link has been removed – you are at the new blog!). Don't bookmark this, because when all is said and done, the link will be what you use now.

Hopefully, by the end of October this will be all changed over. The new software has much better ways to include pictures, links and ways to update entries. Then once my personal blog is moved over, I'll also have a technical blog that covers Phone Systems, voicemail and computers.

Keep watching…

If…Then

Usually, this is something that programmers think about a lot as they write a program. Something like “If the user enters ‘NO’ then ring a bell or give an error message.” This “If…Then” phrase is what I will be teaching my students in the next few weeks.Interesting that this popped up in Dr Gil’s Devotion today. His was based on Proverbs 3:23 where Solomon starts out with “Then”. You can check it out HERE. According to him, Solomon is saying that “If and When” you have gotten wisdom, then you will have all these “other things.”This also works with where I was in I John 3 where John says (my translation) “we can’t see what we will be in the future, but when He gets here, we will be like Him if we keep practicing what He told us to do.” It also implies that “practice makes perfect.” We may not see immediate benefits, but over time, we will get better. If you jog, just remember how far you ran the first time you jogged. If you lift weights, how much can you “press” now compared to then. Kids get better at reading by reading, and the more they read, the better they get.Home run hitters practice hitting a lot. What are you practicing?

Winds Of Change

Nothing dramatic, just looking for some new blog software. I have been using this for almost a year. It was good practice for blogging and free. In the computer world, that’s called “Open Source” and “shareware”. There has been a lot of learning to get this working, and in writing my own “software” to create the new blog items.

However, there comes a time when the need for change comes, and there are some other things that blog software can do without having to write “code” – just type it in and let the software do the work.

Have not settled on any particular software, but since this runs on my web server, don’t want to use “mySpace” or any of the other commercial (read advertising laden) blog services. There are even some businesses who have blogs (one for every employee so it seems) filled with advertising. Yes, I know that there is a need to keep business going, but…

So, here it is Friday and I’m still searching. Also still rebuilding my computer. Who knows what thrills await this weekend. I do know that the new series at church (“Raising G-Rated Children In An X-Rated World”) should prove very interesting. With all that’s around us, how do you keep the bad stuff from impacting you? Worse, how do you keep the bad from becoming a part of your day to day life?
